UN Women, Gender equality: Women’s rights in review 25 years after Beijing
The 64th session (2020) of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) should have taken place in March. Due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), it has been reduced to a smaller procedural session held on 9 march 2020 in New York. But it is important to stress that this year is very important for the CSW as it is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration (1995).
The report prepared for the session “takes an integrated approach to reporting on progress, gaps, and challenges related to the advancement of gender equality and women’s rights.” The report focuses on six themes:
- Inclusive development, shared prosperity and decent work
- Poverty eradication, social protection and social services
- Freedom from violence, stigma and stereotypes
- Participation, accountability and gender-responsive institutions
- Peaceful and inclusive societies
- Environmental conservation, climate action and resilience-building
The report is available in English, French and Spanish.
